Additional sources speaking on a condition of anonymity told the student newspaper about similar incidents that took place at the sorority in years past, including one woman who recounted how inpledges were ordered to strip naked and run into the woods.
It was not until one of the pledges burst into tears that the Kappa Kappa Gamma sisters revealed that it was just a prank poking fun at hazing at other sororities, according to the report. A pledge class member recounted how they were ordered to stand facing the wall in the dark basement for 15 minutes, while a woman screamed and berated them in front of drunk senior sisters wearing lingerie and high heels.
Willoughby said she decided to come forward in order to raise awareness of hazing at sororities.
IU spokesman Chuck Carney urged students to report claims of wrongdoing to the university so they can be investigated. The student paper's unnamed sources said that they had been intimated by Kappa Kappa Gamma members to keep quiet about the pledge rituals.
